First One Back – Oriole

Every spring, there is always a “first bird back”…and for the Orioles, its usually the case that a male arrives a bit earlier than the rest.  This year we had one male on his own for just a day or two and then others began to arrive.  A mixture of males and females, first year birds and the old pros.  Around the same time, the Grosbeaks build in numbers and the last to arrive, at least for me, is usually the Catbirds.  Their call is so beautiful and distinctive that you may hear them before you ever see them.
