They are never very quiet, as woodpeckers go.  You always know when they are around because of their calls.  Sometimes they sound like a mini-Pileated woodpecker, and sometimes their distinctive semi-abrasive chirps are a tell-tale sign.  Lately though, they’ve been more vocal than normal.  Spring is springing I guess.
